Erica STRIKES again! Buy this book!

Erica has done it again. After mastering the SAT Writing section, she has now taken her amazing analytical skills to the grammar and rhetoric tested on the ACT English.

If you want a high score on the ACT English, this is a MUST buy.

I am a professional test prep tutor and this is the book that I use with all of my students! It is easy to use and is broken into topics by the frequency that they are tested. Her lessons are concise and readable. Her insights are priceless. The small investment in this book could reap a lifetime's worth of reward from having admissions options to getting scholarships and financial aid.

How to use this book:
1. There are only five tests in the red study guide. Take one and compare it to Erica's list of English grammar and rhetoric concepts in the index. Mark your weaknesses.
2. Go do those sections of this workbook first. Most sections are less than five pages.
3. Take the next test and then see if you improved in the areas that you studied.
4. Repeat by doing new sections of her book and then comparing the next test.
5. Now for the real kicker - gain speed! The ACT English is a test against the clock, 75 questions in 45 minutes. You MUST average one question every 36 sections. Find the grammar/rhetoric types that you ALWAYS answer correctly. Now go read those sections and see if Erica has something to add to your skill (or at least polish you up a bit). Practice doing those types of questions with confidence and speed!

Not enough practice for the price

I think many of the five star reviews are from friends of the author, which I realized before purchasing the book, but I bought it anyway. The main reason I bought the book was for the appendix at the back that analyzes and organizes all of the questions in The Real ACT. I was going to do that for myself, but now I don't have to :)

I like that it is organized into separate skills and gives practice for each of them individually. That sets it apart from other ACT prep books. Unfortunately, there isn't enough practice of each skill for students to be able to master it. This book has a price similar to all of the other ACT prep books but is much shorter and offers far fewer practice questions.

There is some value to this book, but I don't think I would have bought it for the price I paid. I think I would've been satisfied with the purchase if it was half the price. Or if it had reduced the teaching/explaining part and had five times the number of practice questions.

Good ACT English Book, but needs more details on some topics.

A good ACT English prep book. Includes all the topics with some exercises to prepare for the test. My kid feels confident after using the book. I love the two indexes in the back that categorize all questions in red book. However, the brief summary on modification does not fully explain ACT topics. I would recommend "The Curious Case Of The Misplaced Modifier" as a supplement to strengthen some weak topics in this book.

Lavishly illustrated picture of the Ancien Regime

This tells us a lot about Jefferson, incidentally showing in his day-to-day life the confluences and contradictions that enriched his own life and the American soul for a couple of centuries afterwards. It also gives a vivid picture of Paris in the years leading up to the French Revolution. The seller filled the order rapidly and described the book's condition accurately. I'm happy to have it.

Any information about tires is a treasure!

The tire is the most important part of an automobile, and the least covered by the literature. That's why any information about tires is a treasure. The complexity of the structure and behavior of the tire are such that no complete and satisfactory theory has been propounded. Books on vehicle dynamics are available but they are mostly written by academics who emphasize mathematical rather than clear explanation of how things really work. The tire might be the most useful and complicated device humans make, but the tire manufacturers provide no useful information to their customers. People are forced to buy tires mainly on the basis of price and company reputation. Even race teams get tire data only sporadically, and that data is pretty useless anyway. Tire performance is necessarily highly dynamic, but tire data comes mainly from testing under static conditions.

This book describes basic properties of components of the rubber compound, carbon black reinforcement, and so on. It also shows mechanical model for rubber: "If you apply a cyclic force the rubber will deform mostly like a spring and give back the force applied to it, but also partly like a damper which is sensitive to the speed (frequency ) of the applied force". The book breaks rubber friction into adhesion (molecular bonding) and mechanical keying (deformation friction). Mechanical keying becomes more important when the road surface is lubricated by dust, water or ice; here is where another interesting property of rubber, viscoelasticiity comes into play. "Press your thumbnail into a street tire and the rubber rebounds. Press it into a racing tire and the mark stays there, recovering only slowly. This is a simple but crude test of hysteresis, or energy loss, in rubber". The book analyzes surface texture effects on rubber friction - how the slope of the asperities affect friction, and "the myth of off-line in the rain". Tire behavior is another major issue of the book.

The last 75 pages of the book (chapter 11) are not directly about tires, and devoted to "Basic Vehicle Dynamics", in case if you don't have an appropriate book on that topic, e.g. "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics" by Milliken Bill and Doug.

I also recommend "Mechanics of Pneumatic Tires". It is a PDF that you can freely download from the publisher's website using an internet search engine. This PDF is an excerpt from "Theory of Ground Vehicles, 3rd Edition" by J. Y. Wong.

A technical book that you can't put down?

Beleive it or not, this technical book had me glued to its pages like a great work of fiction. Haney is an excellent writer, and the 'meat' of the text is intertwined with great real-world stories and examples from motorsport. Interviews with Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, as well as other less famous but no less competent vehicle dynamic experts are included.
The first part of the book is everything you could have ever imagined you'd like to know about tires. There are explanations and insights into tire manufacturing and testing that I don't think you could find anywhere else. If you are into any form of motorsport you realize how important tires are; this book will help you understand how tires function and, even more importantly, how to use this information to go faster!
The second section of the book is basic vehicle dynamics. If you're well read, most of that will be review. But for beginners, I think the way Haney starts with tire dynamics and works ino the vehicle is very natural and a good way to learn for the first time.
This book is technical but easy to read, contains information and discussion that will be enjoyable for veterans yet not overwhelm newcomers to vehicle dynamics. Even if you have a large library I promise you this book will remain one of your all-time favorites.

For those interested in social cognition

This is an excellent book, written in an engaging and accessible style, which makes it informative and agreeable to read. It constitutes a valuable resource for college students as well as graduate students who are interested in emotion processing from the perspectives of cognitive and social psychology. Both perspectives are well integrated. It is for me one of the best introductory textbook in a rapidly growing field of research.
This book is also a fine example of how the study of emotion has changed and how fascinating this domain is to those interested in social cognition.

A great book. I am studying as a counsellor and this book has been very beneficial as a reference for my essays. This book has a great structure which allows for a foundation to move onto more depth such as Daniel Goleman's emotional intelligence.

worthless junk

This book, unlike a number of others in the Greenwood series, is totally worthless. First, not one entry has any recording information (dates, matrix numbers, etc) which is essential for a discography. Second, many releases are missing altogether especially operas. The layout is also not very good, just hundreds of typed pages.

WOW! Just wow!!! Cassia, I’m in awe! The Way We Rise (Book #3 of The Story of Us series) is the perfect conclusion to such a phenomenal trilogy! What a beautiful ending with an epic, mother of all epilogues! You never cease to amaze me time after time!

Secrets will be revealed and then some! Can Rory and Houston’s relationship handle the truth and its repercussions? This heartfelt and emotional read is about impermanence, acceptance, friendship, hope, love and happy beginnings. I cried, laughed, swooned, cried even more and my heart skipped a beat at a particular scene which nearly killed me! (Side note: Cassia, how could you?! Some of us have weak hearts! LOL!)

“You see, in real life, there are no happy endings, because real life, real love, has no ending.”

Fret not! We will find out what happens to all of our favorite characters (and Tessa…) that we have grown so attached to over the last two books. That’s the magic of Cassia’s masterful storytelling — she keeps it real by creating well-developed characters, realistic plots, and most importantly, the life lessons imparted will resonate with every reader. She is truly an amazing author and I love this book and series tremendously!

The Story of Us series will stay with me for a very long time to come and I’ll always hold these quotes close to my heart.

Always good writing, but this story is very juvenile w/unlikeable characters.

Writing is good. Typically I've really enjoyed this author. As others have said, the problem is that the character's are just so unlikeable! These characters do everything that just make you cringe. The heroine is weak, dependent, sorry for everything that isn't her fault, and not sorry for the rather stupid mistakes she makes over and over and over again. The "hero" is shallow, stereotypically male, stereotypes women, makes completely unforgivable mistakes, and it is not believable that he loves the heroine in any way. The best friend has some fun dialogue, but is a TERRIBLE friend for pushing these two dysfunctional and immature people together. No one seems to grow. The drama and tension is the story seems so manufactured. The parent story development might be appropriate if the protagonists were teenagers, but they're not!

There's sex, though, but nothing original or that seems to relate to the individuality of the characters at all. The trilogy is drawn out painfully. They're together, they're not. Lies, betrayal. Round and round again. The drama is senseless and no one seems to grow up. Seriously, the guy is a perfect description of a conniving douchebag, yet he's better than the "villain"? The girl is a depiction of all that is wrong with how women are seen and stereotyped.

I should have known Cassia Leo wouldn't let me down. The Way We Rise, book 3 and the conclusion to Houston and Rory's story, was the absolute perfect way to finish this series. I have to admit I was put through the wringer with these two more than once throughout their difficult journey. Houston and Rory have faced so many bumps, so many detours, could they truly find their way back to each other? I had to put my complete faith in the author and let's just say at times that didn't seem to be enough.

What I loved most about this book was the continuing deep development of the characters. We get to watch as Houston, Rory, Kenny, Ava, Patricia, James and even Skippy(!) move ahead with their lives, despite all the tragedy and disappointment that has befallen them. With the thread of Hallie both holding them together and still sometimes keeping them apart, it was almost as if they all experienced a rebirth of sorts. Demons start to be exorcised and truths start the healing process for all of them. The horrific scene that ended The Way We Break is the starting point for this book, and it is almost a miracle that Houston and Rory even have a chance anymore. But the author masterfully lets her characters take their time and thoughtfully figure out exactly what they want. Gone somewhat is the rush to judgement that had befallen them before which was a true joy to see.

The love that started with an 11 year-old having a crush on her best friend's brother, has seen more ups and downs then was ever thought possible. But the deep-seeded affection between Houston and Rory never wavers. I found myself smiling more than I thought and oh my goodness, laughing out loud at one of the best epilogues I've ever read. These characters seem to find the right direction this time around yet only time will tell if it will all pay off in the end. Being kept guessing is never a bad thing in my opinion. It just makes you want to keep going until the very last words are read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the entire series. It is a love story that will break your heart more than once, give you some heartwarming moments and keep you riveted from beginning to end.

Highly recommended and a solid 5 stars!
