Not sure if it breaks new ground or rehashes the same old ground... time will tell

I like Yuri, he has some cutting edge stuff, but I'm not sure this is all it's cracked up to be.
It all comes down to not eating wheat or dairy, and repeating a 5 day cycle of meal patterns that work out to a calorie deficit, and exercising.
Some parts are contradictory, like telling you to not eat dairy, but then telling you that yogurt would neither help nor hurt your efforts...?
He doesn't have you count calories because he says they aren't really all that important - but then a bit later puts you on a portion plan counting portions the size of thumb, palm, hand, etc. which amounts to the same thing.
Not sure I want to forego bread, pasta, milk, cheese, and the rest - and live on quinoa forever.
Strangely, it's gotten 19 five star reviews, and it's only been in print 2 days.
There's NO WAY anyone could have tried it for the full 21 days, when it's only been out for two, eh?
So, that many positive reviews could have hardly come from anyone who has actually tried the program, unless they had prior exposure.
Yuri's followers and his test group comes to mind here.
He's asked them to review the book, when it was only out there less than a day.
Based on what?
In any case, the take home lesson seems to be to cycle your carbs, fast a day in 5, exercise, and don't eat wheat or dairy.
Oh, and eat when you are hungry, stop when you are 80% full.
You'll lose the fat no matter what you do, if you fast every few days, never eat past 80% full, and exercise. No magic there.
On the plus side, it's an inspiring read, a metabolism based diet and exercise approach, and parts are interesting.
If the message is new to you, Yuri's book is worth a read.

It works for me

I was one of the beta testers last December. I wanted to lose the last 5 lbs that had stuck with me since having children. Instead, in 21 days - straight through the Christmas season - I lost 10 lbs and dropped to 21% body fat. I dropped 2 pants sizes. More importantly, throughout the following months, I grew increasingly stronger. I'd never been able to do a "real" push up and by March, I could do 20. As a 40-yr-old woman with 3 children, who has always hated exercise, that was an accomplishment. I highly recommend this program.

Worth Getting and Trying

I like it. My husband and I followed the first week of the plans, and ate everything as written, even though it was quite the adjustment (I am not much of a meat eater and do not like quinoa; hubby is a burger and fries guy). On day 8 we at one "old habit" meal of our choice, and then went right back on the 21 day plan.
The portions are huge.
The flavors are quite good.
I am concerned about the amount of butter, oil and avocado in here when my doctor already asked me to limit these things, but I am not a nutritionist nor do I have a degree in food science.
All in all, it has been a good way so far to get away from flour, sugar, dairy as a family habit.

For those who balk at the beta-testing reviews, they're normal in all book releases and not fishy. It is the process of doing business in the publishing world these days. Author offers book in advance in exchange for honest reviews. Period. If you do not respect the process, do not participate or read reviews.
