Great book for anyone working in IT.

I've been in IT for almost 20 years now and just about all of the books are pie in the sky theory and cut and paste methodologies that don't work in an actual deployment.
(Why didn't I give this book 5 stars? I would've like some "anatomy of a failure" type lessons learned. But I would've given it 4 1/2 stars if possible.)

This book eschews the theory and talks about what needs to be done to put a service into a production environment and keep it up and running. If you're looking for some great guidelines as to what needs to be done to get a product up and running, this is the book.

As a software test professional, I make a plea to my testing colleagues to get this book. There needs to be more focus on the non-functional aspects of putting a service into an operational state and so little testing is done these days with that in mind.

For developers, it provides a good list of tips for making a system much more responsive with regards to status and reporting in a production environment. Great reminders for Devs to build a system that works in the environment to which it will be deployed.

Figures in the print version may be more clear but in the Kindle version they are difficult and in some cases impossible to read. As a new user, I expected that the author would have explained the terminology used in the beginning but I had to go to some other sources to better understand the terminology. In addition, the author does not give a clear explanation of the meaning of the results you get from the FEA. In a number of examples it might appear that the analyzed part is inadequate and would fail but that is not the case. This is a good book about how-to-do but not very good on interpreting the results. You might want to find a book that give you some better information about interpreting results.

Here you will find a wealth of information on drama queens, bullies, control freaks, daredevils, used car salesmen (not the actual, but maybe also the actual), lovable rogues, gossip queens, the terminally depressed, narcissistic legends, tiger moms, puritans and perfectionists.

Whew! The list is long and tiring, but think about it, if you don't have this trusty book hidden underneath your mattress, how could you possibly navigate a world full of Emotional Vampires? And in the age of the Kardashians, Facebook, iphones, botox, Paris Hilton, and Narcissistic politicians in high office, there may be more of THEM than there are of US.

A Must Read - We all know these people.

This book was riveting in that we ALL have these people in our lives - so we ALL should read it. We might be working with them, living with them, children of them, spouses to them. Either we can't or won't believe that people can be this way and they are so alternatingly charming and pleasant and then cruel that they actually are training us like lab rats to exhibit the behavior they want from us ... and we stay around because we somehow want to save them from themselves. Women especially - READ it - and then make your daughters read it! Know about them before you are reading it to understand what just happened to you! I started out with highlighter but gave up because I was highlighting everything as though the book was just about me and my specific situation. Good stuff. I've shared it with friends who are caught in the world of an emotional vampire and they thanked me. Don't hesitate. You'll swear the author is writing about someone you know.

If you can answer yes to all those questions you may have one or more emotional vampires in your life. Like the fictional blood-sucking variety they may seem more attractive and more fun than anyone else you've ever known. But you need to be aware that this is just the surface and something much darker lurks underneath.

This fascinating, amusing and frightening book will help you to understand the vampire in your life and may help you to salvage a bit of your own life from the wreckage before you become just an accessory to the vampire. The author divides emotional vampires into categories - antisocial vampires, histrionic vampires, narcissistic vampires, obsessive-compulsive vampires, paranoid vampires. Some people may show tendencies from all these categories and all human being may exhibit some of the symptoms and behaviours at times.

The author demonstrates by means of everyday scenarios how vampires manipulate you into doing what they want you to. They put you in the wrong so that you feel obliged to help them and they twist what you say and use it against you. The only way to deal with them is to play them at their own game and stand your ground even if means ending your relationship with the vampire. Even if you don't think there is a vampire in your life at present this is still interesting reading if you are interested in psychology.

The chapters review access levels, legal and institutional frameworks, and the different ways in which basic services are managed and financed, as well as showcasing diverse examples of innovation in the local and multi-level governance of services. It concludes with a set of recommendations for all stakeholders with a view to making the goal of basic services for all a reality.

This report contributes to discussions on the Millennium Development Goals and the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda. The findings of GOLD III will also be essential to promoting the vision of local governments at the 2016 UN Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat III).

About the Author
Sue-mei Wu, Ph.D., Lecturer of Chinese in the Modern Languages Department at Carnegie Mellon University, is currently undergoing the promotion process to associate teaching professor. She is the project leader and primary author for the "Chinese Link" textbook project. She has a Ph.D in linguistics, with a minor in language pedagogy and solid experience teaching Chinese at all levels. After receiving her Ph.D in linguistics from The Ohio State University in 1997, where she served as a graduate teaching associate for over four years, she taught Chinese at Harvard University from 1997-2000. She has been the coordinator for Elementary Chinese at CMU since she joined the CMU faculty in Fall 2000. She has received CMU Faculty Development Fund (2000, 2002) and Falk Grant (2001, 2003) awards to support developing online language and culture modules and incorporating them into Chinese courses at CMU. She is currently the co-author of a new textbook being developed at CMU for heritage learners, and co-author and chief editor of a new Classical Chinese textbook, written in cooperation with scholars from other institutions. Yueming Yu, PhD., is an Associate Teaching Professor and Coordinator of the Chinese Program of the Department of Modern Languages at CMU and co-author of this project. She came to CMU in 1992 to start the Chinese Program at the Department of Modern Languages and has been the Coordinator of the program ever since. She has 35 years of experience in teaching a foreign language. She was an Associate Professor of English as well as the coordinator of the International Journalism Program at the Shanghai International Studies University before she came to the US. She was also one ofthe founding members of the English newspaper ("Students Weekly") in Shanghai and a pioneer for the English News Program of Radio Shanghai. She has translated several books from English to Chinese, and compiled English-Chinese dictionaries. Her doctoral dissertation was a research on the criteria used in the selection of textbooks for teaching Chinese in the United States. Her current research focuses on pedagogical issues in Chinese language education with an emphasis on the relationship between teaching the language and teaching the culture, including a special focus on the teaching of heritage students. She is also the project leader of another textbook of Chinese for heritage students. Yanhui Zhang, Instructor of Chinese in the Modern Languages Department at Carnegie Mellon University, is a co-author and an editor for the project. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at CMU, teaching Elementary Chinese I and II. She is also a graduate student of MCALL (Masters of Computer Assisted Language Learning) and has recently started her Ph.D program in second language acquisition at CMU. She has taught various levels of English as well as English for business management in China. She is currently working on a project for the computer-assisted learning of Chinese language and culture.
