Clear, concise, well-written intro to Android programming!!

A wonderful little book for anyone who wants to get their feet wet with Android programming. Early on, the author warns the reader they need a basic understanding of Java to use his book with success. After a discussion of the origins and popularity of Android, the author explains the Android architecture, specifically the kernel, libraries, runtime and applications framework. After a discussion of basic android programming terms, he launches into the tutorials which have excellent screenshots. Although I have never programmed Android, (I'm fairly proficient in C++), I could easily follow his step-by-step instructions for creating a new app. Clear, concise and well-written, I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a basic understanding of Android programming.

Really helpful book with a lot of pratical informations for beginners.

I'm not a dev but a couurious person but this book makes me want to learn how to develop apps! Finally i understand the basics (for example what kernel, libraries, and runtime are and how to deal with app designing). A lot of pratical instructions based on Java and XML. I think this is a really good guide to start anche outsourced based projects. Recommended!

I've been thinking about writing some applications for phones, so I needed a book like this to show me how it is done. Good to have resources like this, and for just a buck, who can complain? Glad I got it while it was on sale, because I love a bargin. Can't wait to start writing my own apps!

I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!

The story of Isabel, the lady warrior, and James Markham, Earl of Bolton, was so riveting that I couldn't put it down until I found out how these two people would solve their problems and fall in love. I didn't want this story to end. The sexual tension sizzled in this very sensual book. The author is incredibly skilled and talented as a story-teller. I just loved it and you will, too.

If you love a fast pasted, action packed romance, this is IT

Gayle Callen's "A Knight's Vow" is truly a fabulous read that you will not want to put down or end. Ms. Callen takes the classic battle of the sexes to new heights of humor, excitement and tenderness. This book is brilliantly written with characters so memorable they quite jump off the page and grab your heart. It's a must read for fans of famous boy vs. girl pairings like Hepburn & Tracy or Bruce Willis & Cybil Shepard in Moonlighting. Ms. Callen draws the reader into James and Isabel's world easily. The sparkling dialogue that was full of double entendre's and all out fun kept me entranced. The journey that James and Isabel take from being physically attracted enemies to deeply in love soul mates is very satisfying and will no doubt be considered a classic! What is most captivating is how Ms. Callen lets the reader truly "get into" her characters' heads. Behind the humorous humiliations, the serious competitions between boy and girl, are real emotions of heartache, failure and inadequacy. Isabel and James' triumph over their very human failings; they come to respect and cherish each other for who they truly are, not who they appear to be. This is a must read for any romance fan, not just medievals. I absolutely recommend it as a top-notch novel!

a good book but not as good as the first in the series

This is the second book in the series. The 1st book"The Darkest Knight" was much more tender and loving. I enjoyed the fact that in this book the bad brother from the first book has a chance to become the hero and mends the rift in his family. This is James's story. We first meet him as he is being attacted by the heroine in the story, Isabel, or Angel as he calls her. She is trying to finish the revenge her family has started against his family. She steals from him and leaves him bloody and bested by a woman only to show up again at his castle in his bedroom. She flees after a struggle with a very naked James. She is soon caught though and he has her thrown in his dungeon. He soon finds himself commanded by his King to marry her. He is stunned but more so she. She dresses like a man, has no idea how to act like a lady or even a civilized human being. He tries to get her to change but she is as stubborn as he. They fight the attraction they have for each other and only after a long struggle do they finally admit they care for one another. I will enjoy reading a book about James's sister hopefully in the near future.

In 1861 his father was called to the University of Jena. The young man now showed such distinctive signs of artistic ability that he was sent by his father toN uremberg, to take a course in the art school of that city. At the end of 1867 he left Germany for a prolonged stay in I taly. The influence of the masterpieces of art accumulated in that country proved to be infinitely more beneficial to his artistic development than the school instruction which he had practically out-grown when he entered the art school. In Rome Hildebrand became acquainted with Hans von Marees, whose independence of thought encouraged the younger artist to follow his own bent. After staying in Rome a year and a half Hildebrand returned toG ermany and busied himself for some time with sculpture in Berlin. About the Author

David E. Sadava is the Pritzker Family Foundation Professor of Biology, Emeritus, at the Keck Science Center of Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, and Scripps, three of The Claremont Colleges. In addition, he is Adjunct Professor of Cancer Cell Biology at the City of Hope Medical Center. Twice winner of the Huntoon Award for superior teaching, Dr. Sadava has taught courses on introductory biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, plant biology, and cancer biology. In addition to Life: The Science of Biology, he is the author or coauthor of books on cell biology and on plants, genes, and crop biotechnology. His research has resulted in many papers coauthored with his students, on topics ranging from plant biochemistry to pharmacology of narcotic analgesics to human genetic diseases. For the past 15 years, he has investigated multi-drug resistance in human small-cell lung carcinoma cells with a view to understanding and overcoming this clinical challenge. At the City of Hope, his current work focuses on new anti-cancer agents from plants.David M. Hillis is the Alfred W. Roark Centennial Professor in Integrative Biology at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also has directed the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and the School of Biological Sciences. Dr. Hillis has taught courses in introductory biology, genetics, evolution, systematics, and biodiversity. He has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, awarded a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship, and has served as President of the Society for the Study of Evolution and of the Society of Systematic Biologists. He served on the National Research Council committee that wrote the report BIO 2010: Transforming Undergraduate Biology Education for Research Biologists, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of the National Academies Scientific Teaching Alliance. His research interests span much of evolutionary biology, including experimental studies of evolving viruses, empirical studies of natural molecular evolution, applications of phylogenetics, analyses of biodiversity, and evolutionary modeling. He is particularly interested in teaching and research about the practical applications of evolutionary biology. H. Craig Heller is the Lorry I. Lokey/Business Wire Professor in Biological Sciences and Human Biology at Stanford University. He has taught in the core biology courses at Stanford since 1972 and served as Director of the Program in Human Biology, Chairman of the Biolo-gical Sciences Department, and Associate Dean of Research. Dr. Heller is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a recipient of the Walter J. Gores Award for excellence in teaching and the Kenneth Cuthberson Award for Exceptional Service to Stanford University. His research is on the neurobiology of sleep and circadian rhythms, mammalian hibernation, the regulation of body temperature, the physiology of human performance, and the neurobiology of learning. He has done research on a huge variety of animals and physiolo-gical problems, including from sleeping kangaroo rats, diving seals, hibernating bears, photo-periodic hamsters, and exercising athletes. Dr. Heller has extended his enthusiasm for promoting active learning via the development of a two-year curriculum in human biology for the middle grades, through the production of Virtual Labs—interactive computer-based modules to teach physiology.
 May Berenbaum is the Swanlund Professor and Head of the Department of Entomology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has taught courses in introductory animal biology, entomology, insect ecology and chemical ecology and has received awards at the regional and national levels teaching from the Entomological Society of America. A fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society, she served as President of the American Institute for Biological Sciences in 2009 and currently serves on the Board of Directors of AAAS. Her research addresses insect-plant coevolution from molecular mechanisms of detoxification to impacts of herbivory on community structure. Concerned with the practical application of ecological and evolutionary principles, she has examined impacts of genetic engineering, global climate change, and invasive species on natural and agricultural ecosystems. In recognition of her work, she received the 2011 Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement. Devoted to fostering science literacy, she has published numerous articles and five books on insects for the general public.

Easy to follow and full of useful information!

The pictures and the diagrams are really nice in this textbook. The layout is also nice and easy to follow. There is a ton of information so pair it with the study guide and you'll be able to do great! I got the loose leaf version so it was easier for me to carry a few chapters around at a time rather than the whole thing.
