Checkmate picks up with all the drama that Coca Kola left us with. Apple is trapped in the whorehouse waiting on Chico to hopefully rescue her, while being degraded more and more by the day. Even though I didn't like Apple you couldn't help but to feel sorry for her, with all that she was going through. Kola is still hurting from Cross's betrayal, but still flooding the streets with product. Eduardo (Kola's supplier) is still trying his best to get her to be his woman. Edge was up to his usual antics trying to get at Kola and trying to turn Cross against her as well. We are introduced to some new characters like Two-Face and he definitely lives up to his name. And Denise, the twins mother, is still up to no good and getting on everyone's nerves. There is still a war going on between Chico and Kola, but while Chico constantly thinks of Apple, Kola could care less. Kola's enemies are stacking up by the day, while Apple is still plotting her revenge. Will Apple make it out of the whorehouse? Will Kola lose the war against Chico? I read this book in one sitting and I wasn't ready for it to end. People are slipping and getting careless and I can't wait to see who will finally claim the throne. If you liked Bad Apple and Coca Kola then you will love this one.

Miss Santiago has done it again and continues to amaze. This is the third series of the Kola and Apple. The book picks up exactly where Koca Kola left off. I have to say it was a tough read because of the circumstances surrounding Apple. Like they say karma can come back and bite you in the ass.I cant wait for the fourth part. I hope Miss Santiago releases it soon. She is an excellent writer and I highly recommend all her books.

All I can say is wow! This book was a true page turner. I love Nisa Santiago's storylines. Full of drama and twists. A must read. I can't wait for the next installment. I'm curious to see what will come of Apple and Kola.....

Robert J. Lillie (Ph.D. Cornell ) is professor of geosciences at Oregon State University. His research explores crustal structure and geologic evolution in Alaska, Europe and Asia. Geology 101

It is a challenge, to say the least, to try to "teach yourself" geology. This book is unsurpassed in its ability to explain the many basic principles necessary to understand the earth and how it works. It goes way beyond park by park geological descriptions. It teaches the reader to understand the geology and does so in a way that makes it a real page-turner. (I'm not kidding!) Unlike McPhee's books, it is filled with illustrations and diagrams explaining subduction, converging plate boundaries, uplift and the many other concepts that are essential to being able to understand and appreciate the past and on-going history of the geology of the United States. Unlike the "Roadside" series, it does not use terms and vocabulary without explaining their meanings and significance. Anyone can understand and follow Lillie. I would give a lot to be one of his students. He uses our national parks to illustrate his lessons and scores an unqualified success. In short, this is a stunningly beautiful book that makes you want to jump in the car and head out to see our national parks and monuments, with confidence that, once there, you will truly understand the processes that created their natural beauty. After much searching for a layman's guide to geology, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Robert J. Lillie's 'Parks and Plates' is a wonderful book

Parks and Plates: The Geology of Our National Parks, Monuments and Seashores clearly and concisely describes the geological processes which formed the most spectacular, familiar and beloved landscapes in America. Balancing the fast-moving text are richly illustrated explanations of geological ideas and terminology and helpful color photographs depicting specific examples. The author identifies which parks reflect which geological forces leaving the reader with a desire to pack up and visit each park.

Simply Excellent
I have spent the last 35 years of my life going to the National Parks and Monuments and like so many others seriously sought books that could explain what I was seeing. In my opinion we have that book now. Dr.Lillie has done a remarkable job consolidating all the ins and outs of geology of the National Parks, Monument and Seashores. The illustrations are perfect and the text is easily read. If for no other reason for the best person to write a book like this consider the combination of avid cyclist(observation) and Ph.d in Geology(academic)--perfect combo in my mind.

About the Author
For the last four-and-a-half years, Euan Ferguson has been the principal bars and pubs writer for Time Out London. Every week, he travels all over the city to anonymously review cocktail bars, real-ale inns, gastropubs and hip drinking spots. As part of his role he is also Time Out's deputy chief sub editor. Euan has contributed to numerous Time Out books, including the last five Eating & Drinking Guides and London's Best Bars (published 2010).Before his career in journalism, Euan was a successful bar operator in Edinburgh, with years of experience at all levels of the licensed trade. World's best craft breweries with interesting names and easy to follow instructions. This is a great resource for your library. I did try a few and was pleasantly surprised at how good the taste was in bringing out the flavors. This author knows what he is talking about and shows good examples.

About the Author

Don M. Pirro is the global alliance technical manager at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, Paulsboro, New Jersey. He started his career in 1978 as a test engineer for Ingersoll Rand’s Turbo Compressor Division. He has more than 36 years of lubrication experience with ExxonMobil in various technical positions. He is the author or contributing editor of several scholarly articles on synthetic lubes, environmental awareness applications, grease technology, lubricant interchangeability, used oil analysis, and marine lubricants. He graduated from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, New Jersey, with degrees in mechanical engineering and business administration.

Ekkehard Daschner is the industrial lubricant section head and greases technology program lead at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, Paulsboro, New Jersey. Daschner earned his mechanical engineering degree in Germany and started his career in an aluminum company. In 1982, he joined the Mobil Oil AG R&D laboratory in Germany supporting product development projects. After holding various positions in technical support, he was appointed Area Sales Director and Brand Manager in Germany and the European headquarters in London and Brussels, and later served as European and later as Global Industrial and Marine Equipment Builder Services Manager.

Martin Webster is a senior research associate at ExxonMobil Research and Engineering, Annandale, New Jersey. He earned his BS and MS in aeronautical engineering and his PhD in tribology from Imperial College, London, UK. In 1986, he was awarded the Bronze Medal in tribology from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers in the UK. After spending four years working in the UK, he joined ExxonMobil in 1989. At ExxonMobil, Martin has held various positions in research and product development and is currently involved in the study of fundamental lubrication mechanisms at the company’s Corporate Strategic Research Laboratory.

The development of characters is outstanding, and the reader easily gets attached to them. This is the kind of story that would make for an excellent movie!
