Great book, great narrator, bad transition to digital...

Monkey's (audiobook) audio is hard to listen to. The transition to digital did not work. Kenneth Williams does a great job narrating, and there's a nifty "echo" effect that adds to the story, but... but... the audio quality makes it very hard to listen to on modern devices.

Great Resource

I was looking for help with an eight column accounting project and taking a final in accounting. I read an excerpt from the book on line and it laid out visuals and how the concepts worked together. I was even able to download the items. The book made so many things clearer. I made an A on the exam and an A from the course. I thought it was so great that the author shared so much of the book at no cost so I purchased it for my kindle. I have used it this semester with Accounting II also. I am not an accounting major but I think the book is a good investment for anyone who wants help with accounting.

I purchased this book to go along with my textbook. It is very helpful when doing homework and I need a hint to solve the problem or I have solved incorrectly and need to check why. BEWARE this is only the first 10 chapters, fine for about the first 2 semesters of Calculus. If you will be going beyond chapter 10 then you also need the other solution manual - ISBN 9781118173831

Complete garbage

This solutions manual mainly publishes the answer in the back of the book with little to no work shown. Most problems require multiple steps to complete and this manual magically goes from the beginning equation to the end equation without intermediate work. Waste of money and time. Did not use it at all. Figured everything out on my own and received an A so I know what I am talking about. You can have an equation a page long and the solutions manual will show it "solved" in 2 steps which occurs when you fail to show steps 2 through 12.

Few people have problems with the Calculus in a Calc class, the issue is with the algebra. This job does a poor job of showing the algebra required to solve the problems.

This is a delightful book that will appeal to a wide spectrum of readers; those interested in the history of London, time travel, how science develops ,life in the 1800s and how a contemporary (a young woman physician) might respond to being wrenched from today back to the time of Jane Austen and Cavendish. There are fasciniating insights...how would someone who had never seen plastic respond to the sighht of a plastic bottle? What would a Londoner of 1800 think of twenty first century dress? I eagerly await a sequel. John Coffey, please get to work

A mystery and history and a little medicine during an entertaining romp thru history

Wonderful combination of a history lesson, a mystery and interesting characters taking the reader thru a different time. The author furnishes much detail about the 1800s in London while drawing contrasts with the modern world. An altogether entertaining read with characters that draw the reader further into the story. Sylvia is a very modern woman in another time.

Sylvia grabs hold from the introduction and does not let go even at novel's close. Her paths along long-ago London transport the reader to the sights, sounds and society of 1800 and then pull back to present day hospitals and science. Will she stay or will she go? Dr. Coffey, hopefully, is working on a sequel. I loved this book and as days and weeks go by keep thinking of Sylvia.

About the Author
Professor S. Mostafa Ghiaasiaan has been a member of the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering since 1991, after obtaining his PhD in thermal science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1983 and working in the aerospace and nuclear power industries for eight years. His industrial research and development activity was on modeling and simulation of transport processes, multiphase flow, and nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and safety. His current research areas include nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics, particle transport, cryogenics and cryocoolers, and multiphase flow and change-of-phase heat transfer in microchannels. He has more than 150 academic publications, including 80 journal articles, on transport phenomena and multiphase flow. Among the honors he has received for his publications are the Chemical Engineering Science's Most Cited Paper for 2003-6 Award, the National Heat Transfer Conference Best Paper Award (1999), and the Science Applications International Corporation Best Paper Award (1990 and 1988). He has been a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Nuclear Society (ANS) for more than twenty years and was elected an ASME Fellow in 2004. Currently he is the executive editor of Annals of Nuclear Energy for Asia, Africa and Australia. This is his second book with Cambridge University Press, after Two-Phase Flow, Boiling, and Condensation: In Conventional and Miniature Systems (2007).

This book doesn't explain well the derivation of the formula contains. Furthermore, there is a lack of solved examples which doesn't correspond with the hard problems is provided at the end of each chapter.

My greatest issue with this book is a lack of clarity ...

My greatest issue with this book is a lack of clarity in explaining concepts. It is difficult enough to understand graduate level concepts in heat transfer without thorough explanations of what each term in each equation represents, the relevance of the equations being derived, or any review of vector math whatsoever. And, as the other reviewer said, there is almost a complete absence of example problems to help with the difficult homework problems. Finally, the evidence that this book is the first edition is painfully obvious; there are run-on sentences, unnecessarily large words, and even an error or two in some of the derivations. I believe this book could be vastly improved, and even made good, with a decent revision.
