At last a book about Vinh Xuan !

I was waiting this book for 20 years ! The only book I know in european language regarding this very complexe school of wing chun (and from Hanoï style !).
This book is well done, with nice and clean movement description.
I cannot wait for purchasing the other books of the collection and I hope the books on the 5 animals forms will be release soon ! :)

great book

I am from the william cheung lineage and have a passion for the qigong/internal aspects of wing chun. If you have an open mind and know some of the moves terms this is a great book. I would like to see more terminology crossed over like "ban sao" etc so we have the creative terminology mixed in with the catonese.

The animal form is a rare find!

I had a good teacher for the class in which this book was ...

There was very little in this book that is applicable to a high school Math teacher. I had a good teacher for the class in which this book was used, but I don't see why potential high school Math teachers should be lumped together with potential Kindergarten teachers in the same class! I am thoroughly disgusted with the alternate route program. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and already passed Praxis. Yet I have to go back to school for over a year? I can't believe it. No wonder there is a demand for Math teachers. There should be a much briefer and easier way to bridge the gap between Education and non Education majors. So instead of spending my time honing my Math skills or making lesson plans as a new teacher, I'm going to be sidetracked with useless classes that require useless books like this.

About the Author
George F. Cole is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Connecticut. He has been recognized for outstanding teaching and research and in 1995 was named a Fellow of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. A specialist in the administration of criminal justice, he has published extensively on such topics as prosecution, courts, and corrections. He developed and directed the graduate corrections program at the University of Connecticut and was a Fellow at the National Institute of Justice (1988). Among his other accomplishments, he has been granted two awards under the Fulbright-Hays Program to conduct criminal justice research in England and the former Yugoslavia. Christopher E. Smith is Professor of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. Trained as a lawyer and social scientist, he is the author of twenty books and more than ninety scholarly articles on law, courts, and criminal justice policy. "Must-have" if you're interested in law or law school bound...Superb reference and learning book (there is also a Study Guide -- harder to find); you'll keep this book for years of use! If you take a Criminal Justice course, this is the text you should hope the prof demands. It is truly the best out there. Yes, it's pricy - but worth every dollar.

As an instructor of criminal justice, I can say that this is one of the easiest and most user-friendly textbooks on the market. It's colorful and friendly to the eye, not simply boring text. Introductory text content is fairly uniform across the textbook market, but presentation is everything and can mean the difference between a bored student and a student eager to learn. There is a reason this book has so many editions. Pick up a copy and find out why.

Your guide to doing well on rotation

This book covers the essentials of the all the bread-and-butter emergency medicine cases in a manner perfect for easy learning. Don't waste time with other books, this book has everything a medical student could want for his/her rotation. Cases are short enough to read a few per night and are full of all the information to understand how to approach, work-up, and manage a EM patient. Almost invariably, I would be pimped on the exact information that was covered in the cases. The patients I saw were virtually identical to those in the cases. This series is wonderful for the medical student, especially the 3rd year.

So many grammatical errors...

I use the Case Files series for almost all of my rotations- indicating I like how they are set up and how they present the information. This one is probably the worst one yet containing an error every two to three pages. Most commonly words are left out. Usually it doesn't effect the meaning or understanding, but just annoying (enough that it's making me write this review). I'm highly disappointed that buying the newest edition didn't get me a better book. I will probably avoid buying more Case Files until they start proof reading the books they publish. Sad to see this happen.

Perfect book. Clinical vignette with explanations of correct answer and why the other choices are wrong. There are also review questions for each topic. Highly recommend. This is just about all I used during clinicals.

Frederick S. Not so basic

I think this is a good introduction to economic theory. It manages to provide the reader with a fair overview of economic concepts and institutions, including a final chapter on globalization. However I found that throughout the six chapters, the jargon is heavy and the author describes the issues in analytical terms sometimes too advanced for a basic economics text. Some of the graphs, on the other hand, are quite useful.

A basic primer for micro and macro-economics

I majored in economics in college, something that I still haven't decided if it was the right thing to do. This book billed itself as teaching economics "with an attitude". Not sure in the end what that really meant, although the good professor does include some humor and sarcasm. What was true for me, however, is that economics remains a challenging topic. Why exactly demand or supply curves shift left or right, I'm still not entirely clear, or at least it is still not second nature for me. For someone who is new to the subject, I do believe that a book like this will be helpful, as Weaver strays away from use of functions and also challenges the reader to work problems out on his or her own. However, I did what most people do, which is just skip the work-it-out-for-yourself part. In many ways this book is a mini-primer on micro and macro-economics, with clear presentations on supply and demand, the various types of firms and their organization, fiscal and monetary policy, as well as the new, interdependent international economy. The one statement that I found somewhat startling, was Weaver's claim that the Soviet economy raised living standards for people living under that regime. If it did, it was at a great loss of personal liberty.
